Bregenzer Festspiele
In July and August, opera plays on the world's largest floating stage, right in the middle of Lake Constance. Plus concerts and theatre in the Festspielhaus.
Opera on the water, art in concrete and glass, a mountain with a view of 240 peaks: Bregenz packs a lot into a few minutes' walk. The pavilion sits right in the middle of it. Here is the neighbourhood worth your time.

Every place with address and navigation: tap and set off.

From Roman Brigantium into the present day, behind a façade of concrete blossoms. The oldest museum in the Lake Constance region.
The cable car takes you up the 1,064-metre local mountain. At the top: a view across the whole of Lake Constance and some 240 Alpine peaks.
The scheduled boats set off across the lake from the harbour. To the north the Blumenmolo pier reaches out, with the lighthouse at its tip.
The medieval upper town above the lake, overlooked by the Martinsturm with its striking onion dome.
Drama in the former granary of 1838, a few steps from the harbour. The programme changes, and individual performances take place at other venues in Bregenz.
An oval central building with an octagonal tower, built between 1925 and 1931 to plans by Clemens Holzmeister and a listed monument today.
Wedged between two neighbouring houses is a façade just 57 centimetres wide: Europe's narrowest house.
(02) RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE
On the lakeside promenade, between the Festspielhaus and the harbour: an aperitif before the performance, an ice cream after the museum, a coffee with a lake view after the cable car.

(03) NO TICKET NEEDED
Four walks that cost nothing but time.
01
The walk right along the shore, past the lakeside gardens, past the pavilion.
02
The lakeside path from the harbour towards Lochau, with easy access to the water.
03
The route around the lake runs right through Bregenz: Austria, Germany, Switzerland.
04
Out to the lighthouse, and stay on the steps until the sun disappears into the lake.
